Amos & Hosea

This week we enter into the minor prophets Amos and Hosea.  As we work through the minor prophets, we will not be going in the order that they appear in Scripture; rather, we will look a them through historical periods.  Amos and Hosea both prophesied to the northern kingdom, Israel, prior to its being taken into captivity.

Amos focuses on the issue of social justice while Hosea focuses on the issue of faithfulness.  It's clear that Israel fell short in both of these things and paid dearly for its disobedience.

Was this a problem just for God's Old Testament people?  Or do we also struggle with issues of justice and faithfulness in our walk with Christ?  We are thankful for Christ, whose perfect justice and faithfulness covers us.  But yet, we are called to live in response to that by living our justice and faithfulness in our lives.

Enjoy your reading!  Please share your reflections and questions.  Be sure to use the guiding questions as you read.

Our guiding questions are these:
  • What stood out to you in the reading?
  • Was there anything confusing or troubling?
  • Did anything make you think differently about God?
  • How might what you read change the way you live?
