Exodus - Week 4

Welcome to Exodus - Week 4!

This is our last week in Exodus!  We've encountered lots of action, suspense, and drama along the way.  And lots of laws!!  In our reading this week, we also encounter some things about the tabernacle, the place where the ark (and God's presence) will dwell.  The tabernacle floor plan is identical to the temple and the furniture from the tabernacle is also present in the temple.  Both the tabernacle and the temple point to Jesus.  As you read, take some time to make those connections.

Our reading ends with a picture of God's glory.  It serves as a nice "bookend" to Exodus that began with God making his presence known to Moses.  God continues to show his glory and continues to be present to us through his Son, Jesus Christ.

As you read, keep in mind our reading questions.  Use these as general questions to keep in mind as you read to help formulate your reflections, observations, and questions.

Our guiding questions are these:

  • What stood out to you in the reading?
  • Was there anything confusing or troubling?
  • Did anything make you think differently about God?
  • How might what you read change the way you live?

Please post a comment below with some of your questions, comments, and reflections from this week's reading.

  1. Sorry to have so many questions at once, but they have been building up. In Exodus 4:24, God tried to kill Moses. Why then and not on the mountain when he was having doubts?

In Exodus 23:3, God tells Moses not to favor poor people in judgments against them or blame them because they are poor. Our current culture doesn't seem to agree with that.

Why was blood splatteren on the altar and on Aaron's clothes? Wouldn't that realistically have smelled, drawn flies and have been very unsanitary?

In Exodus 34:7, why is the sin of the father's punished until the 3rd & 4th generation? Is it because the choices made in sin start people down the wrong path?

    Thanks!
